THE Braves emerged victorious in their debut game in the 2024 Tan Holdings Saipan Baseball League defeating the Blue Sharks, 6-2, at the Francisco “Tan Ko” Palacios Baseball Field on Tuesday.
The Braves made their presence felt early in the ball game as their pitcher, Jylon Sablan, ignited the momentum with two consecutive strike outs. After two more strikeouts in the top of the second inning, they finally broke the silence during their turn at bat with Keni Serrano using his quickness to slip through to third base, eventually reaching home safely with teammate Dre Iguel for a 2-0 lead.
Sablan continued to assert his dominance from the mound with three straight strikeouts in the third inning while his teammates added two more runs in the top of the fourth for a 4-0 lead.
In the bottom of the fifth, the Blue Sharks scored two runs and held their ground defensively throughout the next inning led by pitcher Austin Masga.
Last year’s Golden Glove awardee, Josenio Alvarez of the Braves, then connected a shot that reached the fences and covered enough distance to bring in two runners while Sablan closed the bottom half with a strikeout to seal the deal for the Braves, 6-2.
