HOPWOOD Middle School outplayed Mount Carmel School, 21-7, in the girls middle school division of the IT&E Interscholastic Basketball League SY23-24 at the Marianas High School gym on Wednesday.
Sheer hustle on both ends of the court was HMS’ biggest strength. On defense, they caused chaos among the MCS players, forcing them to commit turnovers and rushed shots. With each successful stop, HMS created fast break opportunities led by the highly skilled Maria Enriquez with six points. Aubrey Quitugua was the only MCS player that could find the bottom of the net, delivering four points.
HMS continued their dominance in the second half. With fatigue as an added factor, MCS could score only three points while HMS thrived. Enriquez was simply unmatched in her ability to finish at the rim, scoring nine points as she led her team to victory, 21-7.
