(MHS) — The Marianas High School Dolphin Concert Band or DCB secured the highest honor, the gold award, at the prestigious Tumon Bay Music Festival held on March 7 to 16 on Guam.

Composed of high school musicians from beginning and intermediate levels, DCB’s journey to gold was marked by months of rigorous rehearsals and unwavering determination.

Beyond the stage, the students of DCB seized the opportunity to spread joy and harmony within the community. The members orchestrated a lively flash mob at Micronesian Mall and Guam Premier Outlets, captivating unsuspecting audiences with their impromptu performances.

The DCB students also shared their musical gifts with the senior citizens of Guam. Visiting three senior centers in Dededo, Tamuning, and Santa Rita, they brought smiles and melodies to the manamko’, fostering connections and spreading cheer through the universal language of music.

The DCB students remain committed to their mission of enriching lives through music and inspiring others to embrace the transformative power of artistic expression. Currently, MHS is the only public high school with a full concert band ensemble with woodwinds, brass, and percussion players. This is part of MHS’ commitment to provide extended learning opportunities for students in the performing arts.

To showcase their music, the Dolphin Concert Band is preparing for a concert on April 13, with the doors opening at 6 p.m. at the Marianas High School’s main cafeteria.  The tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students.

Marianas High School is also celebrating its 55th anniversary this year.
