U.S. Congressman Gregorio Kilili Camacho Sablan has endorsed his fellow Democrat, House Floor Leader Edwin K. Propst, to be the CNMI’s next delegate to the U.S. Congress.
Kilili, who will not seek a ninth term in November, urged CNMI voters to support Propst.
“I would like for you, my friends, family, citizens, to know that I have decided to endorse and support Rep. Propst for our next delegate. I ask all of you to consider [him] and your support for me in the past. I’ll never forget. I am eternally grateful,” Kilili said in a video released Wednesday by Propst’s campaign committee.
Kilili said Propst would “continue those same programs that benefit you.”
Propst can “carry that torch,” Kilili added.
In a statement, Propst said, “I am deeply honored to have Congressman Kilili Sablan’s support. He has been the people’s champion for eight terms, 16 years.”
Propst added, “I’m grateful to have a mentor, a role model, a friend to help guide me along this journey. It’s always been about our people. I will do my very best to continue to put our people first as he has done.”
Gov. Arnold I. Palacios and several CNMI House members have also endorsed Propst’s candidacy.
For her part, former Commonwealth Ports Authority Board Chair Kimberlyn King-Hinds is seeking the Republican Party’s nomination for Congress.
The other possible delegate candidates include retired Judge Juan T. Lizama, freelance business consultant and grants writer John Bolis Gonzales, and Senate President Edith Deleon Guerrero.
