WASHINGTON, D.C. (Office of the CNMI Congressional Delegate) — U.S. Congressman Gregorio Kilili Camacho Sablan says the fiscal 2024 spending bill the House passed Wednesday includes $12,902,535 for fifteen community projects he requested for the Marianas. The bill was negotiated among the House and Senate bipartisan leadership, along with the White House, and passed 339 to 85 with 83 Republicans voting against the measure. A Senate vote was expected and signature by the President on Friday.

“These fifteen projects, submitted to me by various agencies in the Marianas, will make a real difference in the health and safety of our communities,” Congressman Sablan said. The projects to be funded are:

• $1,000,000 to the Department of Public Lands homestead infrastructure development in As Gonno,

• $959,752 to the Commonwealth Utilities Corporation for PFAS granular activated carbon filter replacements,

• $959,752 to CUC for Sadog Tasi wastewater treatment plant underground storage tank remediation,

• $959,752 to CUC for the Dandan sewer line project,

• $850,000 to the Commonwealth courts for courthouse security,

• $1,000,000 to the Commonwealth Healthcare Corporation for acquisition of magnetic resonance imaging equipment,

• $1,000,000 to CHCC for a medical supplies warehouse,

• $500,000 to CHCC for Phase III: 300kW solar photovoltaic integration,

• $500,000 for the Rota Public Market,

• $500,000 for Route 30 (Chalan Pale Arnold) safety improvements,

• $1,616,279 for Route 310 (Tapochao Road) construction,

• $850,000 for Route 33 (Beach Road) improvements,

• $850,000 for Route 36 (Bird Island lookout),

• $357,000 for SCBAs for Marianas airports,

• $1,000,000 for a solar photo-voltaic system at the Commonwealth correctional facility.

“I am grateful to all the Commonwealth agencies that submitted community project funding requests to me for fiscal 2024,” Sablan said. “The quality of the proposals and their clear impact on improving life for the people of the Marianas helped me make the case for this funding with congressional appropriators.”

Congressman Sablan said his staff have already met with community groups to encourage project requests for fiscal 2025. The process for submitting the FY25 requests is expected to begin in the next weeks.
