HAGÅTÑA (The Guam Daily Post) — Officers with the Guam Police Department pulled over a man during a traffic stop, who then accidentally handed over illicit drugs and is now facing a drug possession charge.
On Friday, police pulled over Andrew Xander Gogue, 36, after observing an expired registration tag, a magistrate’s complaint filed in the Superior Court of Guam stated. Gogue was riding a scooter on Route 1 in Tamuning.
“The officers asked if he had a driver’s license, registration and proof of insurance. The defendant told officers that he did not have any of those documents,” the complaint stated. “When the officer asked if the defendant had any other forms of identification, the defendant handed the officer his wallet along with a small resealable baggie, which was separate from his black wallet.”
The complaint said police observed that Gogue appeared nervous, his hands shaking.
“The defendant appeared to have numerous cuts on his arms and wrists, and the defendant kept scratching his elbows and hands. … (The officer) observed that the baggie contained a white crystalline substance,” the complaint said. “Through experience and observing the defendant’s behavior, (the officer) suspected that the residue in the baggie was methamphetamine.”
The complaint said Gogue agreed to have a fanny pack he was carrying searched and allegedly told police, “Sir, you’re going to find something in there.”
A modified glass pipe allegedly was recovered from the bag.
Gogue was charged with possession of a Schedule II controlled substance.
The Sgt. Frankie T. Smith Police Station is seen on Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2024, in Tumon.
