THE Senate on Tuesday unanimously voted to confirm the re-appointment of Marianas Public Land Trustees Rita A. Sablan, Ed.D. and Alvaro Santos.
All nine senators voted to adopt the report of the Senate Committee on Executive Appointments and Governmental Investigations.
Sablan and Santos have been serving on the MPLT board since they were confirmed by the Senate to serve the terms of former Trustees Maria Frica Pangelinan and Martin B. Ada, who resigned before their terms ended early last year.
Gov. Arnold I. Palacios and Lt. Gov. David M. Apatang renominated Sablan and Santos for another six-year term.
In her report, the EAGI chair, Sen. Celina Babauta, said MPLT “holds a vital role in our community, it safeguards our precious resources granted in our Covenant, ensures responsible management and fosters economic development for the benefit of our NMDs.”
She said selecting the right individual or individuals to serve on this critical board is paramount.
Sablan and Santos have demonstrated “a deep commitment to responsible stewardship,” Babauta added.
Sablan is a former education commissioner while Santos is a former House member.
