Northern Marianas Coalition Against Domestic & Sexual Violence launches Project PROM

THE Northern Marianas Coalition Against Domestic & Sexual Violence is excited to announce the launch of Project PROM, an initiative aimed at empowering CNMI High School Juniors and Seniors to become peer advocates against sexual assault while providing free prom attire to participants.

Project PROM seeks to make a difference in students’ prom experiences by collecting new or gently used prom attire, including suits, button-ups, pants, ties, shoes, dresses, heels, jewelry, and unused makeup and hair supplies from the community.

The program comprises two components: a workshop and a prom “store.” The workshop focuses on education and empowerment, providing participants with essential knowledge about sexual assault and harassment, including signs, impacts, and effective intervention strategies as peer advocates. It also offers valuable resources for individuals who have experienced or know someone experiencing sexual assault, emphasizing the importance of speaking up against wrongdoing and accessing support services.

As an incentive for attending the workshop, participants will have the opportunity to “shop” (for free!) from our prom “store,” which features an array of donated items including dresses, button-ups, dress pants, ties, shoes, heels, jewelry, hair styling tools, and more.

“We are super excited to launch Project PROM, aiming to provide students not only with the attire they need for prom but also with the tools to address and prevent sexual assault, as well as empowerment to advocate for themselves and others,” said Savannah  Lyn Delos Santos, at the Northern Marianas Coalition Against Domestic & Sexual Violence. “Together, we hope to create a safer and more supportive community for our youth.”

Dr. Rita Hocog Inos Jr./Sr. High School on Rota is the first confirmed participant for Project PROM this year.
