French Pacific franc here to stay

PAPE’ETE (Pacnews) — The French Pacific franc, the currency of the three French Pacific territories of French Polynesia, New Caledonia and Wallis and Futuna, is here to stay. French Polynesia’s Finance Minister Georges Puchon said his territory does not intend to do away with it or replace it by the Euro, RFO reports.

Speaking at the annual steering committee of the Paris-based French overseas reserve bank IEOM, Puchon stressed the implementation of the euro, which came into force on Jan. 1, in French Polynesia was “not on the agenda for the time being.”
