THE Commonwealth Utilities Corp. is currently working on a system that would allow on-line payments of water, power and sewer bills.
Acting CUC Executive Director Bernard Villagomez said the customer on-line payment project is scheduled to be introduced in fiscal year 2003 which starts on Oct. 1.
CUC will become the first CNMI government agency to introduce the on-line payment system.
Villagomez said the utilities agency will also launch its own Web page where customers can file complaints.
The Web page will also feature legislative communications affecting CUC and other projects of the agency, Villagomez said.
The billing and dispute procedures for power, water and wastewater services of CUC were recently changed.
If CUC and a customer disagree on a particular bill, the dispute will be settled in an administrative manner in accordance with the agency’s regulations.
If the billing issue is brought to the court and CUC wins the case, the agency is entitled to receive reasonable costs and attorney’s fees.
The new rules also allow CUC to impose a 1 percent late charge if the utility bill is not paid within 15 days.
CUC is also allowed to terminate any utility services to any customer who fails to pay his bill on time.
