KOROR (Palau Horizon) — A man was hurt after he crashed into a wall of a gasoline station in Medallai.
Patrol Chief John Elechuus said the victim was brought to Belau National Hospital for minor injuries.
Initial investigation indicated that the man was drunk when the incident took place at around 11:40 p.m.
Elechuus said the driver lost control and slammed into the wall of a Mobil gas station.
Police, however, withheld the driver’s identity pending the filing of charges against him for drunk driving.
The government has begun the filing of criminal charges against drunk drivers in an effort to reduce the number of road accidents involving alcohol.
The government is also conducting sobriety checkpoints.
Last month, police recorded 12 road accidents.
