KOROR (Palau Horizon) — Palau and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency are all set to host the 21st Annual Pacific Islands Environment Conference from June 24 to 28 at Palasia Hotel. This year’s conference theme is “Merging Tradition with Modern Technology.”
The environmental conference will focus on how island communities have traditionally managed their natural resources, and how the lessons learned from these traditional practices can be used to augment modern technology.
Sessions will feature a variety of topics, including traditional and modern leadership styles, environmental education and outreach and sustainable planning. There will be several technical sessions on topics such as the Compact Road Project, conservation areas, drinking and waste water, recycling, landfills, watersheds, pollution and monitoring.
The 250 expected conference participants will also make site visits around Koror and to Melekeok and Ngiwal.
