A woman who conspired with a juvenile to burglarize a church will spend one year in jail.
Associate Judge David Wiseman on Thursday sentenced Pamela Riungel, a.k.a. Pamela Ruriik, to three years imprisonment, all suspended except one year with 11 days credit for time served.
Wiseman also placed the 36-year-old Riungel on three years of probation. Upon release from jail, she will be placed on one year of supervised probation.
The judge required the defendant to pay restitution in an amount to be determined in 60 days, as well as probation and court fees.
But Wiseman granted Riungel’s request to start serving jail term on June 13.
Riungel was charged with two counts of conspiracy to commit burglary, one count of burglary, three counts of theft, and two counts of receiving stolen property.
The defendant and her counsel, Sean Elameto, entered a plea agreement with the government represented by Assistant Attorney General Aaron J. Romano.
Riungel pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit burglary. The remaining charges were dropped.
According to the government, on May 17, 2001, the defendant agreed with a juvenile to steal an item from the Gospel Light Baptist Church and escorted the juvenile to the premises.
Court papers state that members of the Kagman Community Police initiated the investigation on the unsolved burglary and theft cases at residential houses in Kagman.
Police confiscated many stolen jewelry and appliances—including a Yamaha keyboard taken from the Gospel Light Baptist Church— from several stores on the island where the suspects sold the items.
