Woman accused of stealing $50K

THE Attorney General’s Office yesterday filed a 65-count criminal case against a former administrative assistant of a private company for allegedly stealing over $50,000.
Rosalina T. Gabutin, 33, was charged with one count of theft, and 64 counts of forgery.
According to the information filed in Superior Court by Assistant Attorney General Daniel Cohan, Gabutin, as then employee of MKI Aircon and Refrigeration, stole over $50,000 between June 2001 to Nov. 2001.
Cohan alleged that the defendant forged several deposit slips and checks at least twice in June, twice in July, once in August, six in September, nine in October, and 12 times in November.
Joe Chiles, owner of MKI Aircon and Refrigeration, told the Variety yesterday that because of the incident he fired Gabutin last November.
Chiles said Gabutin forged his the other employees’ signatures and then cashed the checks and deposit slips from a bank.
Chiles said the defendant stole $51,000 from the company.
