THE administration’s newly appointed military and veterans affairs director says the construction of the $1.5 million new veterans cemetery will finally start in June.
Frank G. Cepeda said he was trying to “rectify” problems involving existing projects undertaken by the Military and Veterans Affairs Office.
“We have a lot of issues that we have to find solutions to,” Cepeda told Variety.
According to Cepeda, he will push for the immediate construction of the cemetery, the funding for which has been made available in the last seven years. He said he had met with the Technical Services Division of the Department of Public Works to discuss the status of the project.
He said he was informed that the contract for the construction of the federally funded cemetery was being drafted.
The architectural and engineering design of the project has already passed the master plan stage, Cepeda said, adding that he would keep the public updated about the project.
Cepeda will also seek the Legislature’s support in the transfer of the remains.
