5 nabbed for alleged prostitution

AUTHORITIES on Wednesday arrested five persons allegedly engaged in prostitution.

The suspects are Ying Zhuang Xiu, 34; Juan Song Xiu, 35; Ming Hua Tu, 29; Zhong Yang Yue, 25; and Wen Feng Tan, 39.

Ying Xiu and Juan Xiu were charged with promoting prostitution. The two, along with three other defendants, were also charged with prostitution.

The defendants appeared for a bail hearing yesterday afternoon before Superior Court Associate Judge David Wiseman.

Assistant Attorney General Kevin Lynch alleged in the information that Ying Xiu and Juan Xiu “did knowingly profit from prostitution.”

Lynch further alleged that all defendants “unlawfully offered to engage in sexual conduct with another person or persons for a fee.”

No other details were given in court papers.

Last March 21, agents of the Attorney General’s Office raided a karaoke bar in San Jose which was allegedly used as a front for prostitution.

The agents arrested six women and an alleged male customer.

Last March 16, 28 people were also arrested for allegedly engaging in illegal gambling during raids conducted by AGO at three establishments in western Garapan.
