Solomons ‘Net project named world finalist

HONIARA (Solomon Star/PINA) — The pioneering Solomon Islands People First Network, which brings e-mail to island communities, has been named a finalist in a worldwide information and communication technology development competition. The 15 finalists were selected from more than 100 high quality projects worldwide. The competition is organized by the International Institute for Communication and Development and The Information for Development Program, or InfoDev.

The winners will be announced next month. They will attend a meeting in the U.S. in June to present their “lessons learned” to the global community.

PFnet is a project of Rural Development Volunteers Association and was set up through support from the United Nations Development Program.
