SUVA (The Fiji Times/PINA) — Fiji’s former president and prime minister, Kamisese Mara, and his wife and fellow high chief, Lala Mara, are in Suva Private Hospital.
The former president was rushed to hospital last week after developing breathing complications. Mrs. Mara was also admitted.
Hospital staff said the couple were much better after a night in the hospital.
“They just needed a really good, long rest. Their traditional and social obligations may have been taking a lot out of them,” a source said.
“Apart from their respective medical history, the couple are also facing what any normal people would as old age sets in.’’
The former president spent time in hospital in New Zealand last year after suffering a stroke while on a visit to Vanuatu.
