A Canadian military ship arrived yesterday for four days of rest and recreation activities.
Saipan Seaport Manager Antonio B. Cabrera identified the ship as the HMCS Algonquin which has over 100 crew and officers on board.
Just like U.S. military ships, the Canadian ship will not pay dockage fees to the Commonwealth Ports Authority.
Cabrera said the successive visits of U.S. and foreign ships is a welcome relief to the ailing tourism economy.
Last Friday, the military destroyer USS Curtis Wilbur arrived on Saipan with over 400 personnel on board. The Japan-based ship is scheduled to leave the island today.
Cabrera said CPA continues to encourage both military and passenger cruise liners to visit the islands.
The seaport manager said several cruise liners are also scheduled to visit the island this year, including Regal Princess which is expected to arrive next month.
