SPECIAL Assistant for Youth Affairs Florence Kirby says 20 percent of the commonwealth’s share of the 1999 Tobacco Master Settlement Agreement will be earmarked for youth affairs projects. The CNMI has so far received $1.3 million from the settlement, and $500,000 is now awaiting distribution.
The CNMI government earlier received $815,200, but this was placed in the general fund.
Kirby said she was assured by lawmakers that the Office of Youth Affairs would receive an annual 20 percent allocation from the CNMI’s share of the settlement money.
