REPRESENTATIVE Stanley T. Torres, R-Saipan, said he wants to remind evaluators of Education Commissioner Rita H. Inos of some important factors that should be considered as they begin determining the quality of her performance.
Torres said the evaluators should remember that Inos was involved in politics; went on leave for six months to run as lt. governor and left her many responsibilities at the Public School System to her deputies.
“These things should all be factored in the evaluation. Evaluators should consider these in assessing Dr. Inos’s performance in the last four years as these definitely affected her effectivity in the institution,” said Torres.
“The educational system has suffered too when she decided to get involved in politics.”
The lawmaker’s position contradicts the statement earlier made by Robert H. Myers, PSS public information officer. He said politics should not be a part of the evaluation, adding that evaluators should look at “raw data of (Inos’s) leadership and the management and the positive effects it has brought to the PSS.” But Torres said “Myers is jumping to conclusion and is not saying it right.”
“They know that Dr. Inos knew that she’s not supposed to be involved in politics. She failed to help bring education to excellence when she abandoned her post. So why should this not be factored in her evaluation? If the evaluation would just be a smoke screen, then it would be useless,” Torres said.
