ROY Celis pitched a seven hitter and Justin Reyes went 4 for 5 as the League-leading Miller Lite Brewers inched a game closer for the Saipan Major League Pennant Title bagging their sixth win in seven games with a tight 4-3 victory over the Defending Champions UMDA Aces in last Mondays game action.
The Aces led 2-1 after three innings of play on Mark Toves and Phil Celis’ RBIs. After four scoreless innings, the Brewers then stole the lead with two runs in the top of the eighth inning on Greg C. Camacho and Manny Sablan’s RBIs. But, the Aces quickly responded to tie the game up at, 3-all, with a run of their own in their bottom half when John Reyes reached base on an error and scored on a stolen base. The Brewers then took the lead for good, 4-3, in the top of the ninth and final inning when Tony Camacho led off with a single and plated on Justin Reyes’ fourth hit of the game. The Aces had a chance to tie the game up boarding the lead-off batter, but were not able to get the ball out of the infield for their fourth loss of the season. The Brewers now has a two-game lead over runner-up Marpac Pirates in the race for the pennant.
Greg and brother Tony Camacho each went 2 for 4 and Jerome Delos Santos had the only other hit for the Brewers. Frank Pangelinan led the Aces in a losing effort going 3 for 4 with a triple and two runscored and Mark Toves went 2 for 4. John Paul Flores took the loss for the Aces.
