Woman faces charges for allegedly attacking cop

THE Attorney General’s Office has filed criminal charges against a 23-year-old woman who allegedly created disturbance at a bar and assaulted a police officer last February.

Maria Lourdes Lagasit was charged with assault and battery, assault, resisting arrest, obstructing justice, and disturbing the peace. She was summoned to appear and answer the charges in the Superior Court on April 29.

Assistant Attorney General Aaron Romano stated in the information that on Feb. 8, Lagasit struck Police Officer Jarrod Manglona and resisted arrest as she refused to be handcuffed by Manglona and another police officer.

Romano said the defendant also disturbed the peace of patrons of the Stoplight Bar, Manglona and Elizabeth Genoz.

No other details were given in court papers.

In other news, the government charged a 22-year-old woman who allegedly stole a purse and a wallet containing money and other items from two different persons last December 20.

Carmelita P. Seman was charged with two counts of theft, two counts of receiving stolen property.

In the same information, Liva Marie P. Seman, 19, was charged with one count of receiving stolen property.

Both defendants were summoned to appear and answer the charges in court on April 29.

According to Assistant Attorney General David M. Walsh in the information, Carmelita Seman stole from Miss Qin Yin a purse, $360 cash, $10,000 worth of Japanese yen, prepaid phone cards, and assorted items.

Walsh said that Carmelita also stole from Kathryn Amaro a wallet, $1.75, assorted cards, driver’s license, a Medicaid card, ATM card, and hospital card.
