A delegation of Korean investors met yesterday with CNMI government officials led by Gov. Juan N. Babauta to discuss a multi-million dollar plan to construct a golf course, casino and resort on Tinian.
Ike Quichocho, senior adviser to Tinian Mayor Francisco Borja, said the investors plan to open Tinian Fantasy Land and are seeking the approval of their land lease proposal.
Quichocho said the delegation also requested that the island’s dumpsite and a quarry be moved to give way for the 36-hole golf course that they plan to construct.
“A lot of it now is still in the works. They have to go through all the requirements,” Quichocho said.
He has been tasked to coordinate the routing of the requirements between the investors and the local government agencies involved.
Among the delegation is an architect and an engineer, who presented the investment group’s plan to local officials during the meeting held at Tinian Dynasty Hotel and Casino.
The group arrived over the weekend and is scheduled to leave today. The trip was organized by Soon Park who is a member of the investment group.
Borja met with the same group during his trip to South Korea last week.
Local officials are upbeat about the proposed project. None, however, could provide a time frame for it as everything would depend on the outcome of the lease proposal, which would be reviewed by the Marianas Public Lands Authority.
Tinian Dynasty Hotel and Casino says it welcomes plans by other business groups to open new casinos on Tinian, adding that it would be healthy for the island’s economy.
