THE Superior Court set a $100,000 cash bail each for two persons who were arrested for alleged possession of 65 grams of crystal methamphetamine with a street value of $52,000.
During Monday afternoon’s hearing, Presiding Judge Edward Manibusan also set the preliminary hearing for defendants Chizuwa Manabu and Iida Nobuko for tomorrow.
Manibusan appointed lawyers to represent Manabu and Nobuko in the case. The Attorney General’s Office yesterday charged the two defendants with importation of contraband, trafficking of a controlled substance, illegal possession of a controlled substance and conspiracy.
Police and Customs officers arrested the defendants on Friday afternoon at a parking lot of a poker arcade in Garapan.
The Department of Public Safety said police officers from the Special Investigation Section and personnel from the Customs Investigation Unit executed a search warrant on a vehicle rented by the suspects.
DPS said Manabu and Nobuko were arrested after investigators found in the vehicle a bag containing 21 zip-loc bags filled with crystal methamphetamine. DPS said Nobuko later admitted to a police officer that the seized bag belonged to her boyfriend, Manabu.
