Tudela needs $1.62M for heavy equipment

SAIPAN Mayor Juan B. Tudela has sent the Legislature a $1.62 million “wish list” of equipment that he needs for his office’s road repair and water delivery program.

In his request letter and status report to Sen. Pete P. Reyes, R-Saipan and head of the Saipan and Northern Islands legislative delegation, the mayor said most of the heavy equipment under his office have been having “frequent breakdowns” as they have been in service for the past several years.

“Our equipment is like a time bomb that threatens…the safety of our personnel, and there have been instances of near fatalities encountered by our operators due to mechanical breakdowns,” said Tudela.

Tudela said he is waiting for the lawmakers’ “prompt action” on the matter.

The “wish list” includes at least two water tankers worth $125,000; two dump trucks worth $170,000; a $78,000 back hoe; a $170,000 compactor roller; and a $115,000 “bucket” truck.

Also on the list are a $250,000 bulldozer, a $250,000 road grader and a $130,000 payloader.
