PORT VILA (PINA) — Finance Minister Joe Carlo seems to be the biggest casualty among Vanuatu’s sitting parliamentarians likely to lose their seats in the continuing general election count.
Final results will not be known till later this week. But Carlo, a popular former broadcaster and a prominent sports administrator, is one of three ministers unlikely to be in the new parliament.
Prime Minister Edward Natapei is among coalition government members certain to retain their seats.
His Vanua’aku Party-Union of Moderate Parties coalition was edging closer to retaining power, but the power within the coalition could change a little.
The Union of Moderate Parties led by Deputy Prime Minister Serge Vohor appears to have increased its numbers. Natapei’s Vanua’aku Party appears to have lost some seats.
