A FORMER cashier at Northern Marianas College, who was charged for allegedly stealing NMC’s cash collection in 1999, was arrested on Friday for failing to attend court hearings.
Superior Court Associate Judge Robert Naraja, however, temporarily freed Arvin Deleon Guerrero on a $2,000 unsecured bond after the defendant promised to appear in court proceedings.
Deleon Guerrero’s parents also told the court they would remind their son to show up in all court hearings.
Deleon Guerrero was charged with theft by failure to make required disposition of funds and misconduct in public office.
On Feb. 27, 2001, the defendant failed to appear in court, prompting Presiding Judge Edward Manibusan to issue a bench warrant.
On Aug. 21, 2001, Deleon Guerrero again failed to attend the hearing. Manibusan issued another bench warrant.
On Friday, the defendant said he was late for the first hearing and “overlooked” the schedule of the other proceeding.
According to the Attorney General’s Office, from July through Nov. 1999, the defendant while a cashier at NMC received cash collections on behalf of the college, but failed to turn over the money in excess of $250.
