Trial of 2 cousins begins

THE jury trial of two men charged over the fatal mauling of a security guard in 1996 has begun.

Superior Court Judge David Wiseman has started selecting the jurors who will decide in the case of Sidney Tenorio Camacho and his cousin, Alex Agulto Camacho.

The defendants were charged with murder in the second degree and aggravated assault and battery over the killing of Bernardo M. Tique.

Variety learned that at least three witnesses from the Philippines, including two doctors, were summoned by the prosecution to testify.

The victim’s wife and the youngest of their three children are on island to witness the trial.

Assistant Attorneys General Barry Hirshbein and Aaron Romano are prosecuting the case.

Attorney G. Anthony Long is counsel for Alex Camacho while attorney Joey Arriola is defending Sidney Camacho.

The defendants allegedly mauled Tique, who was then on duty at Nikko Hotel on Dec. 1, 1996. As a result of the beating, the security guard, reportedly died after a few days in a Philippine hospital.
