NOUMEA (Oceania Flash) — A protest strike by journalists at New Caledonia’s RFO television and radio station has once again deprived viewers and listeners of local news bulletins on Monday, the daily newspaper Les Nouvelles Caledoniennes reports.
The journalists say they are protesting against action taken last week by the station’s management, which had, as a disciplinary action, officially mentioned a “blame” on all of the 28 newsroom staff’s personal files, for the record.
The blame followed a previous action by non-unionized journalists, who had, without prior notice, refused on May 15 and 16 to produce local radio and TV news as a protest against what they term “recurrent technical problems related to the equipment.”
