SVES students expected to get high SAT9 scores

San Vicente Elementary School officials are optimistic that their students who recently took the SAT 9 test would pass the examination with high marks.

SVES Principal Janet Villagomez said SAT 9 results will be released after a few months, but they are confident that their students will perform well again.

SAT 9, or the Standardized Assessment Test Edition 9, is administered to all students enrolled in various public schools to assess what they have learned. It also helps educators determine the areas where they need more attention.

“Our students took the SAT 9 this May and we are still waiting for the result of the test,” Villagomez said.

Asked if SVES is confident that its students did well, Villagomez said: “We are optimistic because we have implemented some programs like direct instruction to really focus on reading. This is research-based reading program that really requires explicit instructions.”

She added, “We have also some computer-based reading programs just to supplement the reading program that we have.”

SVES’s SAT 9 results last year partly enabled it to receive several grants.

School authorities used the money from the grants to introduce innovative programs to enhance the reading ability of its 691 students.

SVES is one of the top public elementary schools in the CNMI. It recently received its six-year accreditation from the California-based Western Association of Schools and Colleges.
