A FORMER teacher of Oleai Elementary School who was accused of sexually abusing some of his students entered a guilty plea yesterday.
Michael J. Dodd, 52, pleaded guilty to five counts of sexual abuse of a child.
Superior Court Presiding Judge Edward Manibusan ordered the Probation Office to prepare a pre-sentence report and set the sentencing for July.
The government filed a second amended information charging Dodd with 11 counts of sexual abuse of a child and one count of attempted sexual abuse of a child.
The charges carry a maximum jail sentence of 57 years and six months, and a fine of $24,500.
Dodd and his attorney, Robert B. Dunlap, signed a plea agreement with the government represented by Assistant Attorney General Kevin Lynch.
Under the agreement, the government will recommend the dismissal of the remaining charges.
The commonwealth also agreed to a sentence that will be imposed by the court after a pre-sentence investigation, with a maximum term of imprisonment not to exceed 20 years.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation agents and police in Honolulu arrested Dodd in Hawaii on July 5, 2001 in connection with the sexual abuse complaints.
