Police car falls into ravine

A POLICE car fell into a ravine and overturned while negotiating a curve in Kagman on Wednesday night.

Officer Calvin Farley, the driver of Police Car 39, was in “fine condition,” according to the Department of Public Safety.

The DPS spokesman, Police Lt. Pete C. Muna, said the traffic investigator reported that the cause of the crash was driver error.

“The officer should have been aware of the road conditions to include the gravel, sharp blind curve, and night time,” said Muna, citing the traffic investigator’s report.

Preliminary investigation showed that Farley responded to a disturbance call in Kagman.

Farley was later dispatched again for the second time to the same area. When the second call was made, he was on a gravel road in Kagman I.

The officer was approaching the curve road at about 25 to 30 miles per hour when he stepped on the brake. The car slid forward and Farley failed to control the vehicle’s movement to maneuver the curve.

The vehicle then fell into the ravine and overturned, police said.

There was no mention in the report whether the officer was injured and the extent of damage to the police car.

In other news, a 26-year-old man was reported in critical condition after he was assaulted in Susupe on early Friday morning.

Kerai R. Feliciano suffered serious head injuries and was placed under observation at the Commonwealth Health Center.
