HAGÅTÑA (The Guam Daily Post) — A man accused in an October 2023 stabbing was arrested this week after he was suspected of having methamphetamine during a traffic stop.
On Oct. 8, 2023, the Guam Police Department responded to a stabbing complaint in Mangilao where a man accused Blaze Cruz of stabbing him.
According to the magistrate’s complaint, the victim said he and Cruz had a “petty quarrel” before he was stabbed. Officers then saw the victim holding a towel against his chest and drops of suspected blood in the area.
It wasn’t until Sunday night that police encountered Cruz, who was allegedly driving a car that did not have a front license plate. Officers conducted a traffic stop. Cruz and a passenger, however, jumped out of the car and fled. Cruz was eventually located by GPD.
“Police located the operator and, during a pat down, discovered and confiscated a glass pipe with frosty white residue in the male’s pocket. At first, the male told police his name was Corey Cruz but later admitted his name was Blaze Cruz,” the complaint stated.
Cruz allegedly admitted that the pipe was his and that he buys “ice.” Officers were then able to test the pipe, which yielded a result of presumptive positive for methamphetamine.
According to the complaint, when asked about the October 2023 stabbing, Cruz admitted he stabbed the victim with a dart.
“(The) defendant said things got heated, and he stabbed (the victim) on the left shoulder area while playing darts,” the complaint stated.
Cruz was arrested a little after midnight Monday and charged Tuesday with possession of a Schedule II controlled substance and aggravated assault as third-degree felonies.
