Saipan Mayor RB Camacho was the guest speaker of the Saipan Chamber of Commerce at its general membership meeting at the Pacific Islands Club on Wednesday, March 6.
SAIPAN Mayor RB Camacho was at the Saipan Chamber of Commerce March general membership meeting at the Pacific Islands Club on Wednesday to share his plan to meet with village business owners. He also spoke about the programs that are being implemented by his office.
Camacho said he intends to meet with village business owners and talk about the issues they face.
“I noticed that on our island we’re not connected to each other…only very few are connected. So my objective here is let’s all be connected,” he said.
The first villages he will call on are Chalan Piao, San Antonio, Koblerville and Dandan. Other villages will follow.
“I’m going to sit down with these businesses [to see] how can we work together to reduce unacceptable activities and how [they can] help us employ unemployed but employable individuals,” he said.
For the past few months, Camacho has invited leaders of ethnic and cultural clubs, as well as religious groups, to his Oleai office to solicit feedback on a wide variety of issues, including village blight and crime. His priorities in these discussions have been his vision to create a “safe community, safe village, and clean island.”
The meeting with village businesses would be in the same vein.
As for his efforts to tackle village blight, Camacho said his office is removing solid waste from residential areas in San Antonio with the use of a boom truck.
He said prior to the cleanup in San Antonio, he and his personnel were in Chalan Kanoa to “vacuum” the solid waste that had piled up there.
Koblerville is next, he told chamber members.
In his remarks, Camacho also urged chamber members to take part in the adopt-a-place program. In addition, he spoke about the farm-to-table program, his efforts to establish sister-city ties in Japan, and his collaboration with the Division of Parks and Recreation regarding the opening of the Marpi public cemetery, among other subjects.
