Trial unlikely for men charged in fatal Dededo stabbing

HAGÅTÑA (The Guam Daily Post) — There is not likely going to be a trial for five men charged in the August 2022 stabbing of Kifirston Aiken.

Earlier this week in the Superior Court of Guam, prosecutor Sean Brown revealed there were likely going to be dismissals in the case for three of the five men accused in the case stemming from 23-year-old Aiken’s death in August 2022 at the Dededo Center along Wusstig Road.

Those three are Cyrus Mathias, L-Son Joe and Alison Joe, who all face aggravated assault charges.

On Friday, Brown returned to court with updates to Mathias’ case stating that the Office of the Attorney General will be moving to dismiss Mathias’ charges with prejudice. L-Son Joe’s and Alison Joe’s cases, however, still need to be confirmed after Brown has discussions with the victim’s family and speaks with his superiors.

As for the other two men charged, Samson Shapucy, who is facing the most serious charge of murder, and Dero Isty, who faces charges of aggravated assault, Brown said he was in the process of negotiating plea agreements with their attorneys.

In light of the information, Brown further said “probably” there is not going to be a trial.

Viral video

The five men were charged after a viral video captured the attack on Aiken.

Court documents state Shapucy allegedly used a fishing spear and stabbed Aiken several times. Isty allegedly admitted to helping Shapucy in the attack. The others were seen by witnesses beating Aiken while he was on the ground, documents state.

Alison Joe, L-Son Joe, Isty and Mathias all face charges of aggravated assault.
