Auto-pedestrian crash in Garapan

(Department of Public Safety) — On Feb. 2, 2024, at approximately 7:14 p.m., DPS 911 dispatch received a call regarding an auto- pedestrian crash by the traffic signal light at the intersection of Kopra Di Oru Street and Husga Avenue on Chalan Pale Arnold, Garapan.

At approximately 7:19 p.m., officers arrived on the scene and observed responding fire department medics providing medical aid to the struck pedestrian. Officers also saw a silver Nissan pickup truck with minor damage to its hood’s front bumper and right side. The officers determined the truck to be the vehicle that struck the pedestrian.

The officers also learned that prior to the incident, the 33-year-old male driver was traveling northbound. The traffic signal light was green. As the driver approached the intersection, he said he noticed a pedestrian using the crosswalk.

The pedestrian, a female minor, was struck by the pickup truck, but remained conscious and responsive and was later transported to CHCC by medics for further treatment of injuries.

Speed and alcohol were not factors with the driver, and pedestrian error was the cause of the crash.
