KHS JV’s Jericho Pangelinan protects the ball as a defender closes in during a boys high school division game of the IT&E Interscholastic Basketball League SY23-24 at the MHS gym on Monday.
MARIANAS High School Blue and Kagman High School JV bagged separate victories on Monday in the boys high school division of the IT&E Interscholastic Basketball League SY23-24 at the MHS gym.
MHS Blue triumphed thanks to a strong second-half performance to outscore Saipan Southern High School JV, 29-19.
In the opening half, both teams lit up the scoreboard. MHS worked as a team with Peyton Basa and Dereck Rangamar igniting the offensive run while Louis Rectitud took over the last few minutes with four points.
SSHS JV relied mainly on Darnell Lizama and Christopher Cruz, who didn’t receive enough support from their teammates and ended up trailing 9-12.
In the second half, SSHS JV started to move the ball more often, which created several shot opportunities for the rest of the team. Jerry Faimaw chipped in a three-pointer while Jared Villagomez and Lizama scored inside the paint.
But they continued to struggle while MHS Blue kept the fuel burning with constant pressure that drew a handful of fouls. Basa and Hilario Palino then drained back-to-back triples to seal the deal, 29-19.
KHS JV vs MCS
KHS JV outplayed Mount Carmel School JV, 31-21.
The game started with KHS JV playing well around the perimeter while displaying range with Ardon Flores and Ibrahim Ibarola connecting a bucket each from beyond the arc.
But after MCS JV’s Kaden Propst and Arturo Travilla answered with a pair of triples, their team trailed by just one possession, 12-14.
In the second half, however, MCS JV couldn’t stop KHS JV led by Bruce Tasi, who delivered eight points to secure victory, 31-21.
