THE Pirates clinched the pennant with a flawless 10-0 record in the 2023 SBL Masters League after powering past the Spartans in just five innings, 14-2, at the Francisco “Tan Ko” Palacios Baseball Field on Wednesday.
The Spartans were first to bat and attempted to set the tone with Ton Pangelinan and Ton Camacho bringing in two runs for an RBI each.
Their time in the spotlight was short-lived, however, as the Pirates quickly turned the tables in the bottom half of the first inning with 10 runs.
The Spartans struggled at the pitcher’s mound and could not seem to find the strike zone, walking a total of eight batters.
The Pirates’ Mario Aguon highlighted his team’s offensive with a two-RBI double for a commanding 10-2 lead.
The Spartans were left silenced in the next four innings while the Pirates added one run via sacrifice fly by Jun Palacios in the bottom of the second inning. They scored three more in the third led by Pete Sablan’s RBI triple to end the game with only five innings played, 14-2.
Blue Jays vs Marlins
On Tuesday, the Blue Jays emerged victorious in a nail-biting game against the Marlins, 16-15.
The Blue Jays started strong with nine runs in the opening inning, and added four more in the bottom of the fourth to solidify their advantage.
But the Marlins played the long game and slowly closed the distance. In the top of the sixth, they unleashed six runs followed by two more in the top of the seventh to tie the game, 15-15.
The Blue Jays’ Jun Salalila then connected a single that brought in Alvin Takai and secured victory for their team, 16-15.
