MCS celebrates Catholic Schools Week 2024

(MCS) — Mount Carmel School kindly invites students, parents, guardians, faculty, staff, and community partners to join in the annual celebration of Catholic Schools Week or CSW from Sunday, Jan. 28 to Friday, Feb. 2, 2024.

CSW is a national week-long celebration where Catholic schools throughout the U.S. commemorate the rich and impactful legacy of Catholic education in this country. Schools focus on the value Catholic education provides to young people and its contributions to our church, our communities, and our nation. This year’s theme for CSW is “Catholic Schools: United in Faith and Community.” As such, each day throughout this week highlights a specific stakeholder within our campus community.

The theme and activities for each day are:

• Friday, Jan. 26 – Proclamation Signing Ceremony. School stakeholders and Gov. Arnold  I. Palacios will gather at the Mount Carmel Cathedral at 9:30 a.m. to officially proclaim the upcoming week as Catholic Schools Week in the CNMI.

• Sunday, Jan. 28 – CSW and 40th Diocesan Anniversary Kick-Off Mass. Mount Carmel School will lead the Diocese of Chalan Kanoa’s Eucharistic Revival Opening Mass this Sunday at 5 p.m. at the open field near the Joeten Daidai Social Hall. Community members are encouraged to participate. It is advised to bring a chair/mat and an umbrella to provide comfort and protection from the elements.

•  Monday, Jan. 29 – Celebrating Community. Our students will be engaged in various hands-on activities to recognize numerous community partners that support and collaborate with MCS. Students will engage in charity work through a donation drive to Karidat as well as service activities such as campus beautification projects.

• Tuesday, Jan. 30 – Celebrating Our Faculty and Staff. MCS will recognize the hard work and dedication of all her faculty and staff. Our school will also proudly announce its Teacher of the Year and Support Staff of the Year on this day!

• Wednesday, Jan. 31 – Celebrating Vocations. Various activities have been arranged for our students to interact with the clergy, deacons, and religious sisters. Students will have the opportunity to listen to their stories, ask questions, play games, and compete in basketball and volleyball!

•  Thursday, Feb. 1 – Celebrating Our Nation. Elementary students will participate in a first-responder costume parade to celebrate the tireless efforts of those whose sacrifices make our lives and privileges possible. Upper-grade levels will host live museums featuring several states of the US to educate each other about the bounties within our nation.

• Friday, Feb. 2 – Celebrating Our Students & Families: The MCS Student Council will be hosting a Family/Student Fun Day with classes, clubs, and local businesses having concession stands and booths for everyone to purchase goodies from and enjoy. Athletic field games will also be happening on the field among other fun activities! Parents and guardians are welcome to campus to partake in this day’s festivities!
