THE Trail Glaziers are the new title holders in the women’s division of the Marianas Arsenal 3×3 Series after defeating the defending champions, Angry Penne, 7-4, in the finale of the third tournament at the Ada gym on Saturday.

Defense was the key, which the Trail Glaziers showcased as they did not allow any easy buckets from inside the paint. On offense, their height advantage played a huge factor with Mikki Kautz and Jan Travilla taking over the spotlight as they scored  four buckets.

Besides Antonette Labausa, her Angry Penne teammate Irish Pagarao was able to penetrate  using her speed as she scored three of her team’s four points.

But the Glaziers’ Kautz and Travilla continued to dominate from within the paint, delivering four and three points, respectively, to secure the title, 7-4.

“It feels good, especially because our previous results were not what we wanted them to be, but we had been communicating and talking about what we should do,” Kautz said.

“Our defense is really good but it’s all about the communication with your team and I think we have really developed that within the past couple of tournaments,” she added

“Defeating them [Angry Penne] was a lot of work as their team is full of veterans. But I would not call it ‘dethroning.’ Our goal is to get to Singapore, and until we do, I won’t call it ‘dethroning,’ ” Kautz said. The FIBA Asia 3×3 Cup will be held in Singapore in March.

On their way to the Marianas finals, Angry Penne bested Teine Aeto, 9-5, while the Trail Glaziers outlasted the Swish Kebabs, 13-10.
