4 teams advance to 8-ball semifinals

THE Rendezvous Warriors, Black 8 Shake & Break, the Black 8 Crazy Ballers and LS/Hobbies ChokieChokie have advanced to the Thursday division’s semifinals  of the 2023 Budweiser Open 8-Ball League after eliminating their respective opponents Thursday.

TheWarriors outlasted the True North Hobbies, 9-7.

The Warriors started strong as they showcased their teamwork with Jerry Soriano and Rey Pinangay, along with Nolan Cultura and Roman Rodriguez, sweeping the opening Partners 8-Ball match to take the lead, 2-0.

But the Hobbies excelled in the one-on-one scene with Chester Hamoy, Eric Baugh and Rolly Villanueva each triumphing to pull a 3-1 run and tie the score, 3-3.

The Warriors regained control with another two-win sweep in the second partners match, but the Hobbies equalized in the second Singles 8-Ball match with a 3-1 run for the second deadlock of the night, 6-6.

The Warriors’ Rodriguez, Soriano and Cultura then stepped up when they were needed the most as they stunned Hamoy, Villanueva and Baugh in the third and final Singles 8-Ball match to seal the deal, 9-7, and advance to the semifinals.

For their part, the Black 8 Crazy Ballers trounced Team Last Shot, 12-5; Black 8 Shake & Break slipped past the Black 8 Raiders, 9-8; and LS/Hobbies ChokieChokie edged Black 8 Saipan Computer Services, 9-8.
