HAGÅTÑA (The Guam Daily Post) — Two students, one each from Guam Community College and the University of Guam, were selected by Community First Guam Federal Credit Union to join the financial institution’s internship program, along with three other students, the credit union announced in a press release.
Community First launched Guam’s first student-run credit union in January 2018 at its Mangilao location, conveniently near UOG and GCC, the institution said in the release. The service center is open to all existing and new Community First members.
Jovelyn Concepcion, a UOG student majoring in business administration with a concentration in accounting, and Lana Paulino, a GCC student majoring in computer science, were selected by the credit union to join its Spring 2024 Community First Internship Program, the institution said in the release.
“Now in its sixth year, the Community First Internship Program has trained and developed more than 40 interns from Guam’s higher learning institutions. Our team is committed to the success of this program because it provides our island’s students with firsthand experience in the finance industry,” said Gerard Cruz, president and CEO of Community First.
Concepcion and Paulino will be joining Fall 2023 interns Princess Fernandez, Bryce Garcia and David Lagman, who are continuing their program, Community First said in the release.
Each student earns income while being mentored by a Community First manager and trained in the credit union’s policies and procedures.
In addition, the interns will be using their experience to help them into a career in the finance industry while gaining experience working part-time and earning their degrees, Community First said in the release.
“We encourage college students interested in working in finance to apply for our internship program this summer for the upcoming fall term. Our interns benefit from mentorships and gain valuable experience, which are valuable when applying for jobs after graduation,” said Cruz.
