THE True North Hobbies and the Rendezvous Warriors will face off for the Thursday Division title of the 2023 SBA Budweiser Open 8-Ball League after eliminating their respective opponents on Thursday.
At the Black 8 Pool Bar, the True North Hobbies bested the Black 8 Raiders, 9-4.
The Hobbies’ team chemistry took over the spotlight early as Chester and Clifford Hamoy, along with Charold Hamoy and Eric Baugh, swept the opening Partners 8-Ball match to grasp a comfortable 4-0 lead.
The Raiders recovered during the Singles 8-Ball match with Boyet Sequioco and Ray Matsunaga splitting the rounds and bagging the second Partners 8-Ball match to stray close behind, 3-5.
But the Raiders failed to keep the momentum burning during the second Singles 8-Ball match as the Hobbies’ Chester and Charold Hamoy and Baugh pulled a 3-1 run. Chester then claimed the first round of the third Singles 8-Ball match to win the race to nine points, 9-4, and secure their spot in the finals.
Warriors vs Shake N Break
The Rendezvous Warriors finished strong to defeat Black 8 Shake N Break, 9-6, at the VFW Bar.
The first half of the match was filled with several lead exchanges. Shake N Break’s Randy Sablan and Mei Rengiil drew first blood, but the Warriors’ Rey Pinangay and Juancho Mendoza split the Partners 8-Ball match. More of the same was seen throughout the next two games with neither team able to gain the lead, 4-4.
But in the second Singles 8-Ball match, the Warriors finally gained the upper hand thanks to Jerry Soriano, Roman Rodriguez, and Nolan Cultura who pulled a 3-1 run.
Shake N Break fought back with Rengiil wining the first round of the third Singles 8-Ball match, but the Warriors’ Rodriguez and Cultura notched the final two rounds needed to secure the win and end the match, 9-6.
The finals will be held this Thursday at the Rendezvous Restaurant-Saipan Vegas and at the Black 8 Pool Bar.
