Teen in custody in alleged threat to school

HAGÅTÑA (The Guam Daily Post) — A 14-year-old male minor was taken into custody in connection to a social media threat allegedly made to Harvest Christian Academy last month.

On Wednesday, the Guam Police Department apprehended a 14-year-old male minor during an investigation into a threat made to Harvest Christian Academy on social media on Nov. 30.

The threat of terroristic conduct resulted in a police response. Classes and school-related activities were canceled for the day out of an abundance of caution, according to the school. It was confirmed the conduct was a threat of gun violence, GPD said in a press release issued Thursday.

“The threat was made using a social media application, then was screenshot and published on (a) different social media application. A concerned individual saw the threat and reported it to the police,” GPD stated in the release.

The Guam Daily Post at the time the threat was made was able to learn that the alleged post was made on an Instagram account called “HCA Confessions,” where an anonymous post was made that an individual was going to bring a gun to school. The Post has not been able to view or confirm the message.

On Wednesday, the 14-year-old minor “admitted to submitting the threat that was posted on a social media application,” police said.

The minor was subsequently taken into custody on suspicion of terroristic conduct and unsworn falsification, and processed and confined at the Department of Youth Affairs.

The case has been closed and forwarded to the Office of the Attorney General, GPD said.

According to Post files, there have been 14 social media threats to schools this year.
