‘Drive sober or get pulled over’

(Office of the Governor) — Gov. Arnold I. Palacios and Lt. Gov. David M. Apatang, along with the CNMI Department of Public Safety, proclaimed December 2023 as “CNMI Drunk, Drugged, Drowsy and Distracted (4D) Driving Prevention Month” in order to promote DPS’s 4D Driving Prevention Campaign, which seeks to fight the problem of dangerous and distracted driving by reminding the public of its hazardous consequences.

DPS Commissioner Clement Bermudes emphasized the importance of public awareness when it comes to 4-D driving. DPS recognizes that the increase in alcohol consumption during the holidays correlates to an increase in vehicular accidents as well, he said.

To prevent this, the 4D Campaign will be active and in full force this holiday season by conducting zero-tolerance enforcement activities and providing the traditional designated driver program.

Governor Palacios and Lt. Governor Apatang urge the public to take advantage of the designated driver program. They also expressed gratitude to DPS for keeping the community safe.
