THE Kanoa Football Club celebrated twice as hard on Saturday after claiming the boys and girls division titles of the TakeCare Youth Soccer League Fall 2023 at the NMI Soccer Training Center in Koblerville on Saturday.
In the boys division, Kanoa outgunned MP United Football Club 2, 7-1.
Kanoa nearly had complete control of the opening half of the match. After just one minute of play, they managed to find themselves deep within enemy territory with Maximus Taitano drawing first blood for the early lead. Rooney Gil, Akoni Matsumoto, and Jayson Tagabuel then followed up with a goal each at the 4th, 8th, and 9th minute marks before MPU 2 stopped the bleeding and answered with a solo goal by Kimason Cabrera at the 10th minute mark.
Kanoa’s Gil then squeezed in his second contribution of the day to end the halftime with his team in a comfortable lead, 5-1.
Although the action slowed down in the second half, Kanoa continued to deliver, thanks to Gil’s third goal at the 37th minute mark for a hat-trick. Teammate Aldric Antonio then applied the finishing touch to secure the win, 7-1, and the championship.
Girls division
Kanoa also bagged the girls division title after slipping past the Southern United Football Club, 3-2.
Both teams were evenly matched, but at the 19th minute mark, Kanoa created an opening that allowed Beatrice Gross to find the back of the net to grasp control, 1-0.
Southern United refused to go down without a fight and quickly bounced back with an early push in the second half that resulted in two goals by Rosie Saralu at the 22nd and 28th minute marks to snatch the lead, 2-1.
But Southern United’s time in the spotlight was short-lived as Kanoa’s Ye Lynn Ha flipped the script with back-to-back goals at the 38th and 39th minute marks to regain the upper hand and secure victory, 3-2, as well as the championship.
