Acting Commonwealth Utilities Corp. Executive Director Betty Terlaje speaks with reporters during a break from a CUC board meeting on Thursday
THE House Committee on Public Utilities, Transportation and Communications on Tuesday voted to issue a subpoena duces tecum and a subpoena testificandum to acting Commonwealth Utilities Corp. Executive Director Betty Terlaje.
The committee chairman, Rep. Vince “Kobre” S. Aldan, said the 10-day extension to the deadline that Terlaje had requested was over so the committee had to decide whether or not to subpoena her.
All six committee members present voted yes. They were Aldan, House Floor Leader Edwin Propst, Reps. Angelo Camacho, Marissa Flores, Blas Jonathan Attao and Diego Vincent F. Camacho. Reps. Julie Ogo and Manny Castro were excused.
Last month, the committee sent Terlaje a letter requesting a copy of a financial statement issued by the Bank of Guam that indicates separate accounts for CUC’s emergency, maintenance and general funds.
Aldan said the stipulated order issued by the federal court requires CUC to have separate bank accounts for emergency, maintenance and general funds.
Aldan said his committee wants to see a financial statement from Bank of Guam “because we want to find out where CUC stands financially.”
He said they also want to see if the CUC have placed these funds in separate bank accounts as mandated by the stipulated order.
