Marianas for Palestine members and other supporters gather at the intersection near AK Toyota in Oleai Tuesday in solidarity with the people of Gaza.
Marianas for Palestine protestors are urging local leaders to call for a ceasefire in Gaza.
MARIANAS for Palestine members and supporters gathered at the Oleai intersection near AK Toyota on Tuesday to express support for the embattled civilians of Gaza.
Salam Castro Younis, a Chamorro-Palestinian and an organizer of the group, said they were taking part in a global strike to demand an immediate ceasefire amid Israel’s relentless bombing of the Gaza Strip.
“We’re showing solidarity for the global strike that was called for by the people of Gaza,” Younis said. “We’re here as a free people of the world to give our voice to the Palestinian people … asking for a ceasefire now.”
On Nov. 29, 2023, Marianas for Palestine members and supporters gathered at the CNMI Legislature to urge lawmakers to draft a resolution supporting a permanent ceasefire in Gaza.
At the Oleai intersection, Wejdan Eid, who has roots in Palestine, said they are reiterating their call for CNMI leaders to support a ceasefire.
“If this continues and the number [of deaths] go higher, [CNMI leaders will be] on the wrong side of history.” Eid said. “History books will write about the genocide that took place in 2023 and they will see that the CNMI or Micronesia did not support a ceasefire.”
