THE Division of Revenue and Taxation has been burglarized.
The incident surprised acting Gov. Diego T. Benavente who said the Rev and Tax office in Joeten Dandan was supposed to be fully secured.
“This is the first time that this happened to us,” Liza Aldan, the division’s collection manager said yesterday.
Aldan told Variety that the burglars destroyed their steel vault. She said investigation was still ongoing to determine if the suspects were able to steal money.
She said the vault contained the cashier’s change fund but not payments for taxpayers and vendors which are deposited daily in the bank.
Four cashiers handle daily transactions at Rev and Tax, she said.
Aldan said it was her revenue officer, Fredeie Boyer, who discovered the damaged fiber glass door of the Rev and Tax office which is on the ground floor of Joeten Dandan.
